soc.genealogy.nordic is an unmoderated newsgroup which passed its vote
for creation by 596:16 as reported in news.announce.newgroups on 21 Jun 1995.
For your newsgroups file:
soc.genealogy.nordic Genealogy services and products.
The charter, culled from the call for votes:
soc.genealogy.nordic is for genealogy and family history discussion
among people researching ancestors, family members, or others who
have a genealogical connection to any people in any part of the Nordic
countries.
The group is open to anyone with an interest in genealogy in any
of the populations of the Nordic countries including, but not limited
to emigrants, immigrants or their descendants.
The scope of the group reflects language, history, migrations, and the
realities of researching public records and genealogical data archives,
and includes questions of local customs and history, or of regional
or national history which affected the lives of these people and which
are difficult to research in the present. To facilitate the most
participation possible, we encourage posts using the English language.
Posts may be made in any of the official languages of the Nordic countries.
However, posters using these languages should be aware that this may
result in fewer responses because many of the group participants will
not be able to read the post.
The focus of the group is on people as individuals, as members of ethnic
groups, and as part of migration patterns, but not as citizens of countries.
Postings on topics unrelated to genealogy, especially those relating to
current political or religious topics, are not welcome. Current events
and politics are covered by the soc.culture.nordic newsgroup and there
are a number of newsgroups dealing with religious issues. However,
questions regarding past historical events or religious practices as they
relate to the genealogical research are appropriate.
The group will be gatewayed with a mailing list which will be set up
once the group has passed. The content of the postings shall be
archived at the site of the GENNOR-L distribution site and made
searchable via E-mail or other such means.
